Due to the impact of continuous inflation and soaring energy prices, since the middle of this month, many places in Germany have been on strike due to the breakdown of labor negotiations. The strikes have involved many industries, and basic services and transportation have been affected.

On the 21st local time, more than 4,000 clinicians in Germany went on strike. They took to the streets of Hamburg, demanding higher remuneration to mitigate the impact of high inflation.

On the 22nd, pilots and container ship forwarders in the Port of Hamburg also went on strike. Affected by this, the Hamburg Port Authority temporarily stopped the entry and exit of large ships from 10:00 am until further notice. The strike organizer, the German Service Industry Fed.eration, said the strike at the Port of Hamburg will continue until the morning of the 24th.

On the 23rd, at least 5,000 workers from airports, hospitals, daycare centers, schools, opera houses and garbage disposal centers in Hamburg gathered in front of the city hall to strike.

It is reported that in order to put pressure on the employers in the negotiations, the German Service Industry Union has repeatedly called on employees in different industries to carry out warning strikes and large-scale protests this year.

In the face of the large-scale strike in the Port of Hamburg, the shipping company Maersk issued an urgent notice to customers and stated that some of its ships were affected by the strike.

Maersk said that the warning strike announced by the union Verdi has affected ships that need to be piloted. Maersk is working hard to assess the impact of the strike on the shipping schedule; Maersk has also adjusted the schedule of a ship that is about to call and a ship that is currently in the port of Hamburg.

According to reports, the German trade union Verdi and the railway transport union EVG are ready to hold paralyzing strikes across Germany next Monday (March 27). At that time, it is expected that railways, airports and highway companies will be affected.

Due to persistent inflationary pressures, Verdi is asking for a 10.5 percent pay rise for some 2.5 million public sector employees, and a monthly wage increase of at least 500 euros. But so far, employers have only agreed to a two-step salary increase of 5% and a one-time subsidy of 2,500 euros.

Union EVG also said it was negotiating with Deutsche Bahn and 50 other rail companies, demanding a 12 percent wage increase.

According to the announcement jointly issued by the German Service Industry Fed.eration and the German Railway Transport Union, a larger-scale strike will be held on the 27th, involving public transport networks in most parts of Germany. Affected by this, some highway tunnels will be closed, and the national transportation network in Germany may come to a standstill. At the same time, the next round of labor negotiations will also be held on the 27th. If the negotiations still fail to reach an agreement, the next holiday shipping will still be seriously affected.
